Falling: a new novella

As promised back on March 15, I’m here to announce a new release from my publisher, JMS Books LLC. Click that highlighted term for a link directly to the book page! JMS frequently offers sales, and when you buy direct you receive an ebook file that is yours forever - not a license that might vanish into the ether someday.

You can also keep up with many of my books, self-published or otherwise, at Queeromance Ink. Click that highlighted term for a link to the book page at QRI, where you’ll find other retailer links (when available), a book description, an excerpt, and possibly a review down the line.

Three key things about FALLING:

  1. It’s a M/M/M/F story featuring midlife main characters (they are all in their 40s);

  2. It’s a low-heat story, because my primary concern here was creating a credible relationship-building arc, and also because main character Jonathan Morris is recovering from severe injuries (he’s not feeling too sexy till late in the story);

  3. It’s a pandemic story, set in 2021, with references to real-world events and concerns including job loss, serious illness, and death. Take care of yourself and avoid this one if those are potential triggers for you.

Just short of 40,000 words, FALLING is a stand-alone but references quite a lot of other characters and events within my story universe. Main character Jonathan has appeared in several of my other books: A LITTLE TURN, GIVING IT UP, NEVER ENOUGH, and INTO YOU, as well as UNMASKED, where I first wrote about the helicopter accident in which Jonathan gets the injuries he’s recovering from during FALLING. If you’re curious about those other titles, check out the Novels page here for capsule descriptions and links.

As I mentioned last month, two of the other characters in this polycule have been on the page before. Shaya Rubens is a stylist based in West Hollywood who’s worked for years alongside Jade Derecha of A LITTLE TURN. One of her clients is Patrick Sarkisian of ONE ENCHANTED EVENING. Cory Perez is an insurance adjuster and bodybuilder who’s a friend of Sam and Mateo of BEAT and an occasional sex partner for Max and Anton of my F/M bi/bi novella NO MORE WORDS. He also has a cameo in my blog-only short story REFUGE.

The new character for this novella is Billy Sato, a celebrity nutritionist who’s worked with Jonathan on various movie shoots. When I first started working on this story - way back in 2021 - Billy was meant to be Jonathan’s sole post-coming-out partner. But over the intervening years, I learned a lot more about Jonathan and what he needed, and that helped Billy evolve.

Billy’s a strong-minded, smart, and self-sufficient person as well as a smallish (five foot seven and slim), pretty person. He is Not Your Twink. He’s more interested in a relationship that works for everybody than with limiting other people’s options to salve his own ego. It’s in his nature to be helpful and supportive, but within boundaries.

This forces Jonathan to confront a few things about himself, and a few of his own expectations, along the way to working out their mutually happy ending.

The accident that precipitates this story comes at the end of filming a big-budget action comedy with my character Victor Garcia. It’s highly likely we’ll see Jonathan again in the future (along with his polycule) as I write whatever comes next for Victor and his husband Andy. I’d love to have you along for the ride.

Happy reading!
