Set for launch on February 22 from JMS Books, OUR COMPLICATION is a M/M/M contemporary novella featuring a drama professor, a Broadway choreographer, and a struggling actor. Click the highlighted title for a publisher link - with pre-order discount pricing!

Three key things about OUR COMPLICATION:

  1. It’s about one man unexpectedly meeting someone perfect when he’s already involved with someone else;

  2. that someone else having never expected to be taken seriously or to have a real chance at love; and

  3. the new man quickly perceiving that the previous relationship isn’t over.

The three main characters are Byron, a 56-year-old drama professor; Cole, a 64-year-old choreographer; and JoJo, a 28-year-old actor working hard to catch a break. All three have some past traumas and losses, but this is not a high-angst story. My concern was to present a problem that could be solved (I know some of us are really worn out by the other kind right now), and — just as important — to present problem-solving that’s motivated by generosity, honesty, and empathy.

Like a few other stories of mine, this one kicks off with an opening scene that landed in my brain out of nowhere. Those are always fun stories to write!

Even so, it wasn’t until I realized JoJo was key to the relationship that OUR COMPLICATION really took flight. I’ve written quite a few stories focusing on older protagonists, with all the history that comes with age. Byron and Cole needed someone to remind them what life was like when everything was new, and there JoJo was, waiting to give me his point of view.

Like all of my stories, OUR COMPLICATION was written to stand alone. It’s set in my usual story universe, so there are references to some familiar characters, including Loren McCall of DRAMA QUEEN and Victor Garcia of EXPOSURE.

Happy reading, and remember - we can all make things better.
