STOP THE SAVE ACT.
That’s the short version.
The following Senators are on the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration, currently considering the SAVE Act:
Chair Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Ranking Member Alex Padilla (D-CA), and Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Katie Britt (R-AL), John Boozman (R-AR), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Mark Warner (D-VA), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Michael Bennet (D-CO), and Peter Welch (D-VT).
Pick one, pick all, but write to these elected officials who have sworn to uphold the US Constitution and remind them of their duty. Contact links are at the bottom of this post for each of the Senators on the committee.
The SAVE Act passed the US House with the help of four Democrats who should also be reminded of their duty, which is to serve and protect American citizens – ALL of them:
Jared Golden (ME); Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA); Henry Cuellar (TX); and Ed Case (HI).

The SAVE Act has nothing to do with election integrity and everything to do with suppression of voting rights. If it passes, the 69 million American women who changed their names upon marriage would be considered to have invalid voter registration – and would therefore be denied the right to vote. The millions of American voters who have changed their names for any other reason could too.
The SAVE Act lists a number of documents an American could produce to prove their citizenship for voting registration. Not one of those documents is a marriage license or court order for a name change.
One document that is listed is a Real ID – but only if it lists the holder’s place of birth and affirms their citizenship. Not every state’s Real ID does so. A California Real ID, for example, does not list those items. So under the SAVE Act, a California resident with a Real ID would not be able to use that Real ID as proof of citizenship to register to vote if they move out of California.
They could use a passport, except over 140 million Americans don’t have passports. And the State Department has been busy invalidating passports held by people who have, for example, legally changed their gender markers.
But the insidious subtext of the SAVE Act is this whole business of “proof” of citizenship. If you can’t “prove” your citizenship enough to register to vote, what else could they deny? For starters: Medicare and Social Security benefits. VA benefits. The right to live in the USA. The MAGA minionry is already deporting American citizens without justification. If they can deny the right to vote, they can deny everything else.
STOP THE SAVE ACT.
