Much as with last week’s entry in the Blitz, you may see this cover and think ‘gee, this story is about a trumpet player.’ You would be right!
Scott Easton is a professional musician. Kathy Donovan is a writer. They meet when Scott is in Las Vegas for a pre-release party. He played on a record with Gino Corsetti (HERE TO STAY) and The Desert Rogues, who include Scott’s high-school friend Gloria Louis Bartolo (A WINNING HAND). Kathy is there because she’s a friend of Gino’s; they met when she was writing the series of articles that became a TV show called ‘Behind the Strip.’
Key things about TAKE A NOTE:
It’s a fairy tale;
It’s real life;
It’s about people who’ve been slogging along in their careers for, well, decades, and suddenly find themselves in a position to believe in fairy tales.
The TV show ‘Behind the Strip’ was invented for my novel TODAY, TOMORROW AND FOREVER. But here in the story universe, nothing is wasted. Somebody has to write a TV show! Kathy is only a sketch in that 2018 novel. She’s more of a character in HERE TO STAY.
Scott, on the other hand, came to life during the writing of A WINNING HAND. I had to pause that book in order to write this novella, because I needed to know how Scott and Kathy’s story came out before I could finish the novel.
This is a case of two people meeting by chance who are attracted to each other, and for whom there are no real obstacles aside from the complications of merging two adult lives which include careers. They have friends in common; they both like cats; they understand art, ambition, and self-employment. It’s a feel-good story.
